THE RAVINE - Memphis, Tennessee
CLIENT - Development Services Group, Inc
DESCRIPTION - The Ravine is a gathering place for the Edge District with an open front door to all citizens and guests of Downtown Memphis. Designed for activity, community, and artistry, the linear nature of the Ravine enables a flexible destination for a multitude of activities, designed for groups and individuals, active and passive uses, interaction and solitude.
The Ravine will act as an armature and shared public space to better connect new and existing development in this emergent neighborhood. The Ravine will be intentionally designed as a series of five outdoor rooms beginning with a pop-up/food truck retail plaza on the southern end (near Union Ave.) and ending with an event plaza on the northern end (near Madison Ave.). In between those two anchors will be linear park space, restrooms, seating nooks, activity rooms, gardens, and outdoor play space.
DT Design began master plan visioning of the Ravine site from conceptual studies of the area prepared by Looney Ricks Kiss architects. The conceptual site plan developed from consideration of the variety of uses and users the park is intended to attract. Currently, Phase 1 of the park is complete, which includes a plaza space on Union Avenue, event space and food truck court below Madison Avenue, and cleanup and lighting of the site.
